Dating tips for the beginners

By the time a person reaches their twenties or thirites, it is pretty certain that they have gone through one or more romantic relationships in their life, however short.

For those that are looking for a partner, one of the most common ways of going about it without having to make too large a commitment is through dating. If the sheer thought of going out to dinner with a person brings on heart palpitations, below are a few dating tips that may help you navigate your way through this complex social web. Though there are innumerable places to acquire relationship advice and dating tips, these are merely a few to start the ball rolling.

Whether you are going on a blind date or have met someone in a bar once, one of the most useful dating tips is just to remain open-minded. Most likely the first person you date will not be your partner for life, but there is a chance that they just may well be. Approach the date as an opportunity rather than an interview – both for yourself and for the person you have come with. This can immediately allow you to act yourself and dispel any nervousness that you might encounter.

Some other dating tips involve your perception: how you feel about yourself and of the other person. For example, do you feel dubious about someone’s single status because they are older? Feeling sceptical about how someone’s status can be a protective device, but you can be overly judgemental before your first meeting. Be realistic, and don’t forget that you are single too.

Choosing a venue for your first meeting is very important and it should be carefully chosen. This should rank among the first dating tips, because a well-chosen place can mean the difference between having a great time or an appallingly bad one. If you are sure that the person is well-balanced, trustworthy and fairly garrulous, then a restaurant is the standard place for a first meeting. If you are uncertain about any one of these particular things, then it is best that you meet somewhere that is a bit busier, such as a bar, where you can go for drink. This allows you to make a hasty exit if you so desire. Going to a movie usually rules out talking completely, but you may want a wait a little longer before sitting with someone in silence in the dark.

These ideas are just a few dating tips to get you started, especially if you are reticent about taking the first step into the world of dating. There are no rules about how one goes about doing it, but there are ways to make the experience less frightening and more enjoyable.

The Rules of Dating

In an age of internet dating services and fast-paced living, the rules of dating have changed drastically for singles. Whether you are a man or a woman, there is no doubt that the rules of dating are far more complicated than they were a generation or so ago, and that is a fact.

There is no simple way around it. The old social norms, where the man paid, and called, where the woman waited to be pursued, and never made the first move, had many flaws. They were really unfair, both to women who had more dominant personalities, and to men who would rather take a more passive role, but they did make things easier for everyone to understand.

Back then, the rules of dating were clear, and understood by everyone, but now everything is different. No matter what relationship advice you have received, it is a simple fact that things are much more complicated now than they have ever been, at least at the beginning. Of course, there are many dating services available to try to help clarify the rules of dating for you.

If, for example, you go to a speed dating event, everything is really simple. You are required to do nothing but to talk for a few minutes to a variety of potential matches. Hopefully, you will find people with similar tastes to you, either more traditional, or more modern, and from there, the rules of dating will sort themselves out. But, in reality this is no guarantee that dating rules will be any less complicated.

Whether or not social norms will stabilize and make the rules of dating easier to decode is an open question, but one thing is for sure: not knowing what is the proper thing to do on a date is a matter of some great anxiety for men and women alike. There are advice columnists and writers who make their whole career off of people’s dating anxiety, and each of them have their different approach to rules of dating.

No matter where you go to look for it, you will never find a satisfactory guide to etiquette, because we are in such an informal culture.

  •  I guess that the key is to always act comfortable and at ease.
  •  Be punctual
  •  You will not go wrong by being open, honest and sincere as this approach always wins.
  • On the date, take time to listen to the other person and don’t monopolize the conversation, act interested,
  • Anyone can make a mistake, but if you are at ease, then your manner can put other people at ease.

Even if you do not have a perfect grasp of the rules of dating, your date can still be a success. Have a look at the resource page for some great books that can help you in these areas.

Tip: Create a personal web page

One of the things that can make a big difference with the success of online dating is to write a really good personal profile. One even more effective method is to create a personal web page where you can expand on your profile. Just send the address to this page when you want someone you met online to get to know you better. It will be informative and save you and the other person a lot of time, weeding out the people who are not right.

If you know how to set up webpages, you can just write a one page document on a word processor and upload it to your website. What you need for this is a domain name, which could be your name or a nickname. A cheaper option is to set up a subdomain within the internet account that you get with your ISP. Then a very basic hosting account or use the free space that comes with you internet account.

If you don’t know how to convert that word document into html, you can find a whole host of html WYSIWYG editors on http://www.download.com/ or get a college kid to help you.

If you’re looking to set up a personal web page for the first time, a blog is probably the easiest way to do it since all of the tough work is already done for you.  You don’t need to know HTML programming or ever need to learn it for that matter.  Simply navigate to any one of the numerous blog hosting sites (Blogger is a free service by Google at http://www.blogger.com/), and just setup your account with a valid email address.  Almost all blog hosting sites will allow you to setup your personal web page for free and choose one of a number of different templates, or formats, for your web page.  If you do take the time to learn HTML you can alter these templates even more to suit your individual style by changing colors, moving columns and banners around, and adding photographs and links to other web pages.  Once you have everything setup you can start making posts whenever you’d like.

What to write on you personal web page:

• Show off your qualities. For example, adding a small joke or a humorous comment will have far more impact than just saying ‘I’m funny’.
• List your interests. Talk about what you like to do. Are you passionate about art or football? Do you loathe love ballads?
• Highlight the key elements of your character. Write about what makes you unique. What makes you tick, what makes you happy or angry. Remember, it’s the quirky things that make you stand out in a crowd. You can be as explicit as you like, with your audience in mind.
• Pictures. Add some flattering pictures of you and what is important in your life like you dogs, you boat, etc. All this say a lot about you and your lifestyle. As they say a picture says a thousand words.
• State what you want. Say whether you’re looking for love or simply friendship, say so. This will help attract people with the same priorities.
• Review and edit. Make sure that you check your profile through before you finish it.
• Update regularly. Make changes to your personal profile as many times as you need to. This is all about you, so tailor it to produce the type of responses you want to get.

I know a man who had such great success that he has now found a life partner using this strategy. So if you are serious about Online Dating, write your personal web page now.

To achieve success with online dating and getting a lot of responses is to write a really good profile. You can learn more about how to write profile in the articles section or you can get some professional help with some of the services below.

Profile helper (profile helper.com) helps online daters enhance their profiles, whether it’s the written portion or the photo. “The best way to think of a profile is it’s a movie trailer, it’s not the movie. The trailer is supposed to give you just enough information that you want to buy a ticket,” lead advisor Eric Resnick says. 11% of adults who use the Internet – 16 million of them – have gone to an online personals site, according to a Pew Internet & American Life Project published in March of this year.

The move toward hiring professionals to improve profiles started a couple of years ago, says Mark Brooks, editor of Onlinepersonalswatch.com.  It’s worthwhile for internet daters to make a compelling profile and a photograph that brings out the best in them. If they take the time and money to seek out professional services, Brooks says their responses should double.  FULL ARTICLE @ HERALD TODAY

How to Meet Women Online

Meet Women Online! A guide for men.

Online Dating, where do I start, so many women, yet no responses. Maybe it is about your approach and how you wrote you profile. Read on, you might pick up some tips.

To begin with, don’t expect women to bombard you with emails, you have to be more proactive. By some estimates, there’s about 8 men to every woman placing personal ads online.
It is likely that all those women are getting blasted with responses from men. Are you feeling discouraged? Don’t be. Most of the responses women get are dead boring.

Hi. My name is Jim. I like your ad. Write me.

And that’s one of the better ones. Something like this is more likely:

hi i m jim i liked u r add right me

I am sure you can do better than that, can’t you? So you need to write something that stands out from the next guy.

What do us women want to hear? We want the truth, plain and simple. We want to know enough about you to tell whether or not you could be someone we want to know better.

We need more than just your vital statistics. There is no way of knowing if we would like a guy based on his age, height, weight, and hair color. What makes you different from other guys? Describe it. Do you have a great sense of humor? Don’t just say so, show it. Talk about your hobbies, interests, and what makes you tick.

Don’t exaggerate though. There’s nothing that screams, “I’m overcompensating!” quite like a guy who needs to show off his sports car, great job, boat, etc. The only kind of woman you’ll attract with that approach is a golddigger.

If you are thinking we want romance and wooing… stop. We get so much of that “I like snuggling by the fire, moonlit walks and candlelit dinners”, we can see straight through it. We know it’s just a line, and even if you really do like that sort of thing, there will be plenty of time after we’ve met to show us how romantic you really are.

Make sure to mention something she talks about in her ad. Let her know you that you read it and are interested in getting to know HER, not just interested in getting to know ANYONE. No one expects to be the only woman you’re interested in, but at least make her feel like there’s something you find appealing about her, and not that you’re writing to virtually every woman within a 100 mile radius.

Lastly, one huge subject to avoid is … SEX. That might be what you want it. Women want it too, but we don’t want to feel like a piece of meat. We don’t need to know your fetishes, preferences, length, girth and how long you’ll last before we even know your eye color. Unless, of course, you are on an adults only site that encourage that sort of thing. But if you are on a regular dating site and if the woman’s ad doesn’t mention sex, just don’t mention it.

Learn how to write a winning personal ad in one of the other article and you will be well on the way to winning the online dating game.

Take a new approach to dating

Are you single and looking for romance? Are you looking and looking and not finding that special someone? Well, from my experience, if you go from one extreme to another, eventually you will come back to the center and meet your match there.  Let me explain. Basically, you have at least two options: You can look somewhere new for romance, or you can stop looking all together.

Option number one: If romance eludes you, it is a good idea to start by looking somewhere new. For instance, If you have not tried online dating, then I suggest you try it. If you have over-tried online dating, then I suggest you get out in the world more. Take more classes, go to more parties, or get involved in something community oriented that interests you.  If you have not asked your friends to keep their eyes peeled, then I suggest you do that.

You can also change your approach to relating and finding romance. If you normally talk a lot during conversations, try listening more instead. If you do not make much eye contact, trying making more visual contact instead. If you wear dull and boring clothes, try having a makeover or spicing up your appearance a bit.

It has been said that if you keep doing what you have always been doing, you will keep getting what you have always been getting. So, explore the extremes! Go from one end of the spectrum to the other end, and you may find new and fun interactions, as well as new dates coming your way.

Now, let us say you have tried all that. You have tried looking here, and you have tried looking there, but still, romance and relationship eludes you. You are fed up with the search.

Then your only option is to take a break from searching. It happens when you are not looking for it, right? Isn’t that what they all say? Well, it is true! “Easier said than done” you say. “How am I supposed to stop looking for that special someone?”

It can be done.  Give it time. You do it by getting involved in things that you are passionate about. Simply put: do what you love. Have more fun, in the meantime. Join a club and indulge in a new spo

rt or activity, you never know who you might meet. You have to be out there interacting to meet people.

As you do this, It is not that you are truly trying to forget about the possibility of romance, it is just that you are trying to live life more fully given your current situation.

Put all your heart into doing the things you enjoy. This does not mean you have given up on finding romance. It just means you have “given up” the intense need for a relationship. Do what you love, and the romance will follow.

New to online dating? – it’s easy

Remember when dating was a hassle? Remember when you had to hit the local hot spots, like clubs and bars to make contact with the opposite sex? Well, much of that has changed in the last ten years. Although the clubs and bars are still there, you no longer have to act cool while sipping a martini and drench your cloths in smoke to meet someone. Luckily, dating has now evolved to a much more relaxed atmosphere.

The Internet provides us with a wonderful method of reaching out to anyone we please. Dating online has become quite the craze for many. The number of online dating services and the number of people using these services have been growing at a really rapid rate in the last few years. There is no longer or stigma or the embarrassment to date online as it has got more mainstream. There are multitudes of websites catering for all sorts of age groups, race, geographical location and interest groups.

Whether you’re shy or not, you can still make use of this handy little concept. Just think of how many singles you can come in contact with on your home computer. It’s incomparable to what you’d encounter downtown. A variety of websites have made the process of dating online really simple. Look up “dating” into your favorite search engine and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

When you think about it, this type of dating is rather choice. Where else can you actually narrow down the type of date you’re looking for. You can literally locate individuals who share your interests and hobbies. Age, location, and other preferences are easily sorted through with online dating.

Have you ever been standing, or better yet, lingering in a smoky bar or club scene, and thought to yourself, what am I doing here? If this sounds all too familiar, then dating online may be for you. The main benefit of online dating is the convenience and safety of it. Let’s face it, when you go on a date with someone you meet in a bar, how well do you really know them.

With online dating you can actually get to know the potential date by chatting online first, to at least get an idea of who you are talking to. If you find that you have a lot in common, then you might feel more comfortable meeting in person. You can even trade pictures first if desired, or chat on a webcam to get a better feel. From there, you can arrange a date if you both get along. If you are not interested, you can simply discontinue the chat. You never need to give out specific information, such as addresses and phone numbers unless you feel ready to.

If you’ve tried countless bar scenes and clubs, but never found what you’re looking for, give dating online a try. Millions of available people are at your finger tips. To find the right dating service for you, have a read through the reviews to find one that fits your profile.

Online Dating Really Works

September 29, 2006 by Date Doctor
Filed under Dating Tips & Ideas, General

Here is a story of some guys who didn’t wait for love to find them, they took the initiative and went online to find their wives and succeeded.

Recently, three of my best buddies got married. These were all people who had been waiting to find the right match and had used up all the regular available options. But, as one of them gushed to me over a drink, it was the Internet that finally gave them their partners. I was a little surprised. What did they mean by that? Did they mean they met their partners in one of the chat sites? Or that an e-mail pal had turned out to be the elusive life partner? My buddy laughed and told me that it was the online dating experience that had brought not only him, but hundreds of people like him dating success!

One of the primary concerns that people have with online dating is how genuine the service or the participants are. After all, we are all familiar with the anonymity that most online dating services offer. What prevents an older man from passing himself off as a young man or a teenager from passing herself off as a twenty five year old? Nothing at all, which is why most online dating companies invest a great deal of time, money and energy in verifying the particulars of the member base. But since this is an expensive proposition, most online dating agencies need to charge a fee to cover their costs.

For the casual or non serious online dating participant, this additional cost may seem like an attempt to part them of their money, most genuine users understand and appreciate that this is a necessary service that can help weed out pranksters and unsavory elements. After all, the date they find today could very well result in a meaningful relationship, and a lot of people are happy to pay for the privilege.

Another concern most people have with online dating is the fact that the right match may never be found. At the face of it, one would have to agree. Most standard questions that users are asked by online dating service providers when they initially register are not concrete personality revealing items. Telling someone about your age, sex, likes, dislikes and other details can hardly result in scientific matches. And most people would like to highlight their positive attributes while trying to cover up or even lie about their negative traits.

Some of the more serious online dating services have found an answer to this issue. They indulge in what is known as personality analysis to evaluate the characteristics and attributes of their members and the desired matches in order to determine the best fit. This is done by mailing out and eliciting responses from the entire online dating database. These questionnaires are scientifically designed to get the best match on the actual personality traits. Once this is done, it is simply a matter of finding a few people with similar personalities to make a match! Everyone may not be entirely happy with the results, but it is should have better results than just the random selections that the less serious online dating operators use!
